Finding Time to Exercise

Finding time, where is it hiding? Your exercise does not have to happen in a gym or club. You can use the outdoors, your living room or the basement. The major goal is to GET MOVING!!! For one week write down where you spend your time. You should be able to find points during the day where you have free time. Take advantage of these moments to add in exercise. Below are some other guidelines to find more time in your day!
- Begin by increasing your daily activity. Park further away from the store or your office, take the dog out for a walk, take the kids for a walk to the park. While you are at work walk on your lunch break, go to your coworkers office instead of calling them on the phone or just get out of your chair every 30 minutes to get a drink of water at the fountain down the hall.
- Schedule an appointment to exercise. Just like you would schedule a meeting at work or a personal appointment. People who work out in the morning are often more likely to stick to their programs. As the day progresses work and family obligations are more likely to interfere. Schedule a time that works best for you and stick to it.
- Exercise while waiting. Waiting for dinner to cook in the oven put a workout video in and get a 30 minute workout. Brushing your teeth- do calf raises. Washing dishes- do glute squeezes at the same time. Watching TV- grab your free weights and do some arm and shoulder exercises.
- Think about purchasing your own home exercise equipment or a few workout videos. By having your own equipment or videos you may even be able to save time in your busy day- you can eliminate drive time to and from the gym. If you don.t want to purchase anything use the outdoors to go for a run, a bike ride or a power walk.
There is always extra time in the day we just sometimes have to look between the lines in our calendar. Sometimes we may even have to set the alarm 30 minutes earlier to get in our workout first thing in the morning. Think of how great you will feel once you are done with your workout and going about the rest of your day!
